Porsche is gearing up for a major motorsport milestone: the debut of its newly developed 911 Cup race car based on the updated 992.2-generation 911. Slated for an official unveiling this summer, the car will enter competition in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and select Carrera Cup series starting in 2026.
The 911 Cup legacy dates back to 1990, when the German Porsche Carrera Cup launched the manufacturer's global one-make racing initiative. Today, Carrera Cup events span more than a dozen countries, complemented by 23 Porsche-sanctioned Sprint and Endurance Challenges and Trophies—all relying on the widely produced 911 GT3 Cup. Porsche has built over 5,000 one-make cup cars, cementing its status among the most prolific race car makers worldwide.
Built at Porsche’s main plant in Stuttgart alongside production 911 models, the current GT3 Cup—introduced in 2021—has already seen over 1,100 units roll off the line, each requiring less than eight hours to assemble.
Development of the new Cup car began in January 2024 at Porsche Motorsport in Weissach. The design integrates motorsport-grade performance enhancements while maintaining roots in production technology. Key upgrades include:
- Improved front-end aerodynamics,
- Upgraded braking and transmission systems,
- Enhanced safety features, and
- Refined six-cylinder boxer engine dynamics.
Sustainability is also central to the car’s evolution. All testing has utilized the advanced eFuel blend used in the 2025 Porsche Supercup. This fuel meets FIA’s renewable energy standards and delivers a 66% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional fuels. With a 79.7% renewable component volume—including MtG synthetic petrol and waste-based ethanol—the blend balances elite performance with environmental responsibility.
With track testing conducted at Monza, the Lausitzring, and Weissach, Porsche’s upcoming Cup car signals the brand’s relentless commitment to racing innovation—on track and in the lab.
